I love Sen, but seeing videos of live performances, and listening to reports from other's experiences of her live performances leads me to believe that Sevara Nazarkhan has a lot more to offer in performance, and that what is captured on CD is a little less inspired.

I would suggest to RealWorld that a live release of a Sevara performance would be something I would really look forward to!

Daby Toure & a UK Tour soon?

Please, please when oh when is Daby going to tour the UK again? A friend I saw him at the tiny Theatre in Chipping Norton a few years ago having seen him on stage with Peter at the Round in Brum where he was totally lost. But a few months later in CN? Wawoooooooooooo. Something else. Forget the language barrier (he aplogoised for his lack of English most of the night), the music speaks for itself.

I am envious of you, SkyBlueGirl. I didn't get to Zurich to see them when they supported PG in 2003. My friend, who did see them, never ceases to rub in how good they were. And I missed them at Womad, only by minutes - but a miss is as good as a mile. One day, one day!

Daby Toure at WOMAD

I was gutted that I didn't get to Daby Touré at WOMAD, so I hope I'll get another chance to see him soon. At least I saw him, and several other fabulous guests, during Peter's set.:-)

Guo Yue I first heard on the Realworld site (before they changed it - bring back the old site!). I made a point of catching him at WOMAD last year as a result. He was the final act we saw, and he was fabulous. Consequently we saw him again this year and attended his fantastic cookery wokrshop. I plan to bash a few cucumbers now (cruel vegetarian that I am!). I also got my newly purchased CD signed by him. :-X :-) :> :-) :-X

I met an artist from Nagaland which is a really unknown people on the borders of India and Myanmar. The artist has won awards for his work and studied at the RCA. He is really very very talented.

He made a video work called Shadows where he videoed people from his tribe doing traditional dancing to the sound of the traditional log drumming. He then edited out the people until all that was left were the shadows. For this he won a prestigious award.

I have seen images of the log drumming. They are quite incredible. The logs- are really trees- huge- 5-7 metres long, and may be a metre and a half in diameter.

It is played by 10 or more drummers all at once.

I guess that I have been to slow to recommend it for this year's WOMAD but the culture is disappearing, and it would be fantastic to record it. I am hoping to write something to incorporate this drumming, but it would be great if they were recorded professionally at the Real World Studios, before the culture is completely wiped out.

They are a very proud culture, and have 17 tribes. All of which have different dress codes. However they form a distinct separate culture together.

I haerd "Sental" on a multicultural Radiostation in Berlin. It made me feel so happy - and was in my ear for several days (we call it an "ear worm") - Finally today I found out, who this great song ist by.

Therefore I hope that there will be a concert in Berlin one day...

I've listened to Stone Cold Ohio about three times now.

I've looked at the liner notes and I don't see who plays the wicked harmonica on several tracks!

Any one know? Maybe an unfortunate mistake...

The other flute is the Ba-Wu I think. "The Bawu is a traditional, minority bamboo flute with a reed, from the Yunnan Province in the south of China." You can see a picture on http://www.asza.com/ibawu.shtml. When I have seen Guo Yue in concert, I have noticed that he plays the Bawu on the right side like a silver flute contrary to his others flutes. That's all I know!:-)

I look forward to hearing the new album ASAP, but what about a return to the UK Daby. We saw Daby with Peter in Brum the other year. Totally lost in such a large venue. On the other hand, we saw Daby and the band place our tiny local Theatre here in Chipping Norton a couple of months later and what a night. In the flesh, so to speak, is by far the best.

Well, I don't know if this is the best original soundtrack ever produced, but I think this is obviously one of the best music ever emerged from the creativity of Peter... Passion is a perfect match, a perfect melt of sensitivity, technology and traditional music with complex and dense structure. In my point of view, it's a great music!

Daby Toure's new album, stereo spirit, is released in France since Monday, and omg, it's incredible. I love it. I don't know if it's available elsewhere, as it's not available at womadshop.

Just to tell you that : don't hesitate once it's out to buy it, it's worth it. More powerful than Diam, but anyway, on stage it's even better :>

My favorites are Kiyé, Yafodé and Banta :>
