Tell No Lies - Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara - CD Released 11th May (EU) 16th June (USA) 2009

"The deepest trance-blues this side of Timbuktu. Tougher, louder, edgier and more elemental than ever..." ∗∗∗∗ Uncut

"An extraordinary album..." ∗∗∗∗ Mojo

'Tell No Lies' is the place where the deep roots of African music nourish the raw electric groove of rock and roll, where Gnawa spirit rhythms come up against Chicago distortion, West London howl and a Sahel Wail. Following the critically acclaimed 'Soul Science' (for which they won a BBC World Music Award) this second album takes them deeper into their own special world - no academic experiment but a genuine fusion of musical souls.

Juldeh Camara is an African Master Musician, virtuoso of the ritti, a one-stringed fiddle, and renowned griot (a West African poet and praise singer) in traditional Fula society. Juldeh has the drive and effortless flow of a great Bluesman. While his instrument brings to mind Delta players like Big Joe Williams, as well as Ali Farka Toure - one minute it's Blues harp, the next a Celtic fiddle, then a Saharan herdsman's flute. It is hard to believe all this emotion, range and flexibility comes from just one string.

Justin Adams has been at the cutting edge of world music alchemy since the 1990's with Jah Wobble, Natacha Atlas, The Festival of the Desert, Tinariwen (producing their first and third albums), LO'JO and Robert Plant (Adams co-wrote The Mighty Rearranger and Robert Plant has recently performed with Justin and Juldeh at WOMAD Abu Dhabi). Taking influences from African, Arabic and Irish traditions as well as rock and roll and The Clash, his distinctive, driving guitar style is the missing link between Bo Diddley and Munir Bashir.

Album launch event at Jazz Cafe London May 13

This month on B&W Society of Sound - Gone Before Morning by Madam

Madam are a mercurial cocktail of musicians who bring their maverick wealth of experience to songs written and produced by Sukie Smith. Their debut album "In Case of Emergency" was universally well received and won them fans such as Guy Garvey; they have been named one of the five bands to watch in 2008 by The Independent; picked to play Time Out's On The Up night. Their album launch lead The Guardian to write: "Contender for the noir niche occupied by Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) and Chan Marshell (Cat Power) - Madam are a real find!" Catch them this month at The Music Club.
