Continuing with the new series of digital compilations, five great masters transport us to the ancient culture of India, with seven carefully chosen pieces recorded in outstanding quality. Real World: Indian Classical is available from our online store in 320kps MP3 and Apple Lossless

From Amjad Ali Khan, the undisputed master of the sarod, to the great Pandit Shiv Kuma Sharma, the virtuoso of the santoor, with an exquisite evening raga of serene and delicate beauty, and following in his footsteps, his brilliant son Rahul Sharma. Child prodigy of Karnatak music U Srinivas brings the mandolin, little known in India, into the classical tradition with his fiery energetic finger-picking style. “Indian classical music is a timeless art. It knows no age, it has no yesterdays or tomorrows, just as there are no old rivers, no old seas, nor an old wind.” Raghava R Menon

Real World: Film & TV out now...

The second release in our new series of digital compilations is Film & TV 1

Real World music has featured in many major movies and television programs - these are some of the highlights.

We’ve opened Series 1 of The Wire with The Blind Boys of Alabama’s version of ‘Way Down In The Hole’. We’ve played out over a mid-season finale of Grey’s Anatomy with Charlie Winston’s poignant 'She Went Quietly’. Joi’s 'Fingers’ was chosen to capture the cosmopolitan vibe of New York in Sex And The City. Very recently, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook’s 'Night Song’ featured in Kathryn Bigelow’s film Zero Dark Thirty. Ayub Ogada’s heart-breakingly lovely 'Kothbiro’ played over the closing credits of 2005’s The Constant Gardener, while Jocelyn Pook’s 'Dionysus’ had a powerful presence in Gangs of New York.

Dazzling UK Premiere for The Gloaming

The beautiful, vaulted, gothic space of Islington’s Union Chapel was the perfect atmospheric venue for the UK launch of The Gloaming, performing music from their forthcoming album to be released in October.

The uncomfortable term ‘supergroup’ can be disappointing, but Wednesday evening’s performance went beyond all expectations. Some of Ireland’s finest players - the legendary Martin Hayes, the young fiddle player Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, sean-nos singer Iarla Ó Lionáird met American guitarist Dennis Cahill and New York contemporary classical pianist Thomas Bartlett in a truly unique collaboration.  The virtuosity, the energy, the unexpected arrangements and the sheer beauty of the music left the packed venue jumping to a standing ovation.

“Hearing Ó Lionaird’s wonderfully rich timbre filling every last corner of the Union Chapel was one of the musical highlights of the year”  (The Arts Desk)

“…it’s a truly dazzling show, where extraordinary musicianship meets with old Gaelic numbers … delivered with a contemporary twist.” (The Irish Post - 5 stars)
