JuJu's Juldeh Camara is the 'ace in the hole' for Robert Plant

image

Robert Plant’s Sensational Shape Shifters have returned from many months of US touring for three UK dates, to outstanding reviews including 5 stars in The Independent.  The core band are JuJu: ‘the inspired’ Juldeh Camara, the ‘sublime’ Justin Adams, supported by rhythm section Dave Smith and Billy Fuller.

Led Zeppelin material was inventively, brilliantly rethought with the addition of Juldeh Camara:

'The Gambian griot is Plant’s ace in the hole, a wonderful vocal and instrumental foil on “The Enchanter”, “Black Dog” and “Four Sticks”, and the musician whose presence adds another dimension to the so appropriately-named Sensational Space Shifters' (The Independent)

Vinyl - A story to be heard

Real World Studios producer and engineer Marco Migliari discusses his passion for vinyl in an interview with Society of Sound:

“Just having it in your hands makes you feel there’s a value in it. There’s a story to be told, and a story to be heard.”

Migliari describes how his passion was first ignited by his grandfather’s love of opera and explains the technologies involved that make vinyl sound so unique – as well as acknowledging the imperfections inherent in any disc.

Syriana's 'Al Samah' - combining the best of digital and analogue technology

A new digital EP featuring four tracks currently available only on the limited edition LP A Life In Film. To capture the spirit and atmosphere of the vinyl experience, we have created a special edition digital version: Al Samah

Inspired by the beautiful old gramophones and stacks of LPs they came across in the souks of Damascus when recording their 2010 album, The Road To DamascusSyriana were keen to explore the vinyl approach with their otherworldly mix of Arabic and Western music.

The transfer from vinyl to digital was made at Real World Studios by playing the LP on a high quality turntable, using the best analogue to digital converter available. Calibrated and tested, no edits or cleaning were applied; it’s the true vinyl experience – the odd pop and click included!

Portico Quartet: Archive recordings from early in the band's career

image

Portico Quartet's critically acclaimed self-titled third album saw the band branch out into new sonic territories.  Their new, richly layered sound brought elements of the recording studio into the live environment.

Alongside this 2012 release came a selection of bonus studio tracks, some of which only just missed making the final album.  Four of these tracks saw a limited edition release in the form of a Rough Trade EP, however it is only that they are being made available to purchase via CD & Digital from the Real World Store

EP2 contains the brilliantly atmospheric Vtol, the band’s alternate take on Steepless Ft. Swedish songstress Cornelia' and Coy Carp, Sock Puppets & Train to Mountauk - either of which could have arguably been a key track on the album had they have made the final track listing.

Also available from today…

EP1 a classic early recording from May 2009 with the original line up including Nick Mulvey.  The lush delicate tone of opening of The Full Catastrophe underpinned by Milo’s beautiful string quartet arrangement; the ever brilliant meditation of Line; the driving, jumping Cap Gun and concluding with the winding journey through Su-Bo’s Mental Meltdown.

WOMAD competition winners

image

We were delighted at the enthusiastic response from this summer’s WOMAD festival goers at Charlton Park to the Real World sign up and competition.

Lots of new fans now have their own Real World digital library and will hear first about special offers from our store.

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition.  There were two lucky winners who will have a fantastic pair of Bowers and Wilkins P3 portable headphones winging their way to them.  Congratulations to Molly and Jonathan!

If you missed the WOMAD festival offer, you can still sign up for a Real World Store account.
