Joi presented with UK Asian Music Award

Some of the biggest stars of the British Asian Music industry from genres as diverse as Bhangra, R&B and Asian underground congregated at London’s Hammersmith Palais on Wednesday 6th December 2006 to celebrate the annual UK Asian Music Awards.

Farook from Joi was presented with the UK AMA for 'Commitment to the Scene' in recognition of his long standing and innovative work. He was delighted with the award and said: “It’s so beautiful to see so many Asian artists committed to the scene, I would never have thought when my brother and I first put out a record 20 years ago, that I’d be standing in front of so many creative Asian people collecting this prestigious award – as a movement moves on, Joi!”

Daby Touré's 'Stereo Spirit' is on its way

Daby Touré, African music's young rising star, has been putting the finishing touches to his new album for Real World Records. Mixing the tracks was finished in Paris with Bob Coke (Ben Harper's engineer) in November after which Daby took a month's well earned sabbatical back to his homeland of West Africa. On his return we caught up with Daby on a wet and dreary January day in west London and met at Metropolis Studios where Ian Cooper mastered the CD. Finished at last!

'Stereo Spirit' will be released first in France and Switzerland on February 19 and later in the Spring with a special version for the UK and America.

Daby is proud of his African roots but values creative freedom above all else and stepped beyond his traditional roots to create this superbly-crafted global pop album. His lilting, warm-toned, wide-ranging voice lifts above the layers of sparkling acoustic guitar and detailed percussion. The heart-stopping songs are suffused with tenderness and intimacy. Daby is an outstanding, charismatic performer, his music has a simplicity and soulful nobility capable of crossing any cultural or geographical barriers.

Charlie Musselwhite iTunes Exclusive now available

For the first time iTunes has commissioned a contemporary blues session now available to buy at the online store. This is a hard-edged roots of Delta session by way of Chicago blues. Guitarist Chris 'Kid' Andersen, bassist Randy Bermudes and drummer June Core hop into the heart of this electric trancelike blues with Musselwhite's harmonica filling the gaps and where his world-weary voice shouts, hollers and bellow. The band digs deep here. The session features outstanding new versions of tracks from his recent Real World release alongside new tracks. This unmissable set, now available on, and exclusive to, iTunes.
