Portico Quartet: Archive recordings from early in the band's career

Portico Quartet’s critically acclaimed self-titled third album saw the band branch out into new sonic territories.  Their new, richly layered sound brought elements of the recording studio into the live environment.

Alongside this 2012 release came a selection of bonus studio tracks, some of which only just missed making the final album.  Four of these tracks saw a limited edition release in the form of a Rough Trade EP, however it is only that they are being made available to purchase via CD & Digital from the Real World Store

EP2 contains the brilliantly atmospheric Vtol, the band’s alternate take on Steepless Ft. Swedish songstress Cornelia’ and Coy Carp, Sock Puppets & Train to Mountauk - either of which could have arguably been a key track on the album had they have made the final track listing.

Real World Store (CD / Digital)

Also available from today…

EP1 a classic early recording from May 2009 with the original line up including Nick Mulvey.  The lush delicate tone of opening of The Full Catastrophe underpinned by Milo’s beautiful string quartet arrangement; the ever brilliant meditation of Line; the driving, jumping Cap Gun and concluding with the winding journey through Su-Bo’s Mental Meltdown.

Lots of new fans now have their own Real World digital library and will hear first about special offers from our store.

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition.  There were two lucky winners who will have a fantastic pair of Bowers and Wilkins P3 portable headphones winging their way to them.  Congratulations to Molly and Jonathan!

If you missed the WOMAD festival offer, you can still sign up for a Real World Store account.

Real World: Film & TV out now...

The second release in our new series of digital compilations is Film & TV 1

Real World music has featured in many major movies and television programs - these are some of the highlights.

We’ve opened Series 1 of The Wire with The Blind Boys of Alabama’s version of ‘Way Down In The Hole’. We’ve played out over a mid-season finale of Grey’s Anatomy with Charlie Winston’s poignant 'She Went Quietly’. Joi’s 'Fingers’ was chosen to capture the cosmopolitan vibe of New York in Sex And The City. Very recently, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook’s 'Night Song’ featured in Kathryn Bigelow’s film Zero Dark Thirty. Ayub Ogada’s heart-breakingly lovely 'Kothbiro’ played over the closing credits of 2005’s The Constant Gardener, while Jocelyn Pook’s 'Dionysus’ had a powerful presence in Gangs of New York.
