With less than a fortnight to go until this year's WOMAD Festival, here's a reminder of the Real World Records artists and music that you'll be able to experience live over the weekend (28 - 31 July 2016):
The Grit Orchestra
The late Scottish musician Martyn Bennett's fifth album, Grit, brilliantly fuses together traditional Celtic and modern music. Over 10 years on since it's release, The Grit Orchestra will be performing a full orchestral version of the album at WOMAD on Friday afternoon, an extraordinary show from the opening ceremony of the 2015 Celtic Connections Festival.
Currently touring the UK this summer, Sidestepper will be bringing a slice of Colombian sunshine to WOMAD this year, with their rootsy Latin beats and tracks from the new album Supernatural Love.
This is the latest signing to Real World Records, consisting of Stuart McCallum (former guitarist of The Cinematic Orchestra), Irish singer Rioghnach Connolly and McCallum's fellow Cinematic alumni, pianist John Ellis and drummer Luke Flowers. This is a great opportunity to see the band perform songs from their brand new album, Carry Your Kin. Stuart McCallum will also be performing solo at the Bowers & Wilkins Sound System 2016.
Bowers & Wilkins Sound System 2016
To add to the excitement for this year's festival, Sound System, the 4-way, 135,000 Watt speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins will be making an exclusive UK appearance at WOMAD. Each day features special live performances, electronic live sessions and a closing DJ set. View the full line up here.
The latest band to be signed to Real World Records, The Breath, have released their first album today.
Carry Your Kin is now available on CD, vinyl and download from:
The album mixes Irish folk influences with mesmerizing guitar riffs, anthemic themes and powerful hooks. Irish singer Rioghnach Connolly's lyrics pour forth from her own life in a torrent of meaning. She sings songs of birth and death, woman's rights, first love, the call of motherhood, the death of men at sea and post-colonial wrongs, all interwoven with the electronic fabric of guitarist Stuart McCallum's distinctive soundworld.
In turns hypnotic, lush, powerfully raw and raucously punchy, their songs entrance, uplift and break your heart as The Breath conjure a kaleidoscope of sound that perfectly frames Connolly's raw songs and soul cleansing vocals.
All delivered with compelling emotional honesty and a raw urgency as McCallum, pianist John Ellis and drummer Luke Flowers delve deeply into the spaces between rock, ambient, folk and jazz to deliver a powerfully hypnotic accompaniment that moves from chilled soundscapes to rocking anthems.
The album was recorded in Manchester and at Real World Studios and mixed by sound guru Tchad Blake.

The new album from Joseph Arthur is available from today on CD and download. The Family will also be available on LP from 17 June.
The whole album was written at a piano, a Steinway Vertegrande from 1912, that Joseph had recently acquired. The instrument was so full of character and history, and owned by just one family until it ended up in his industrial studio space in Red Hook, Brooklyn, it became a potent source of inspiration.
The album was mixed by Tchad Blake, whose previous collaborations with Joseph include the well-loved songs Honey and the Moon and In the Sun, the latter which has been covered by Michael Stipe and Peter Gabriel.
