We are delighted to announce that Syriana have been nominated for a 2011 Songlines Music Award in the Newcomer category with the album 'The Road To Damascus'. The winner, to be selected by the Songlines editorial team, will be published in the June issue, on sale April 29. Good luck!
Syriana has also been nominated for an award in Germany - the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (The German Record Critics' Award) - set up to recognize high standards in music recordings.
The band will take their intoxicating brew of Arabic and Western music to UK music venues in the spring, complete with a striking visual backdrop from filmmaker Nico Piazza. If Syriana is coming your way, don't miss the opportunity to see what The Guardian cited as "One of the highlights of this summer's WOMAD (2010) … the rousing debut performance by the UK-Middle Eastern band Syriana"; and Songlines Magazine agreed that "… the album's highly evocative and atmospheric pieces were transcribed very effectively to the stage".

To complete the Syriana collection, coming soon is a 12" vinyl, 'A Life In Film', featuring two tracks from 'The Road To Damascus' plus four remixes.
Syriana have themselves been commissioned to undertake two remixes: for Natacha Atlas's 'Ghoroub' (from her latest album Mounqaliba) to be released by Six Degrees Records in USA May 2011; and Eccodek's track 'Words with the Griot, due for release in USA and Canada later this year.
