New Aurelio album 'Darandi'

Darandi is a collection of Aurelio's favourite songs from his career recorded to capture the sound of his incendiary live performances.

The album will be released on 20 January 2017.

Accompanied by some of the Garifuna world's brightest musical talents, pairing upbeat, dynamic rhythms with melancholy, heartfelt melodies, this music is both deep and danceable.

The album was recorded while Aurelio was visiting the UK for a performance at the WOMAD Charlton Park. After the festival, Aurelio and his band visited Real World Studios, and laid down the record, completely live.

As Aurelio sees it, this is an album that closes a cycle in his career, representing the culmination of 30 years of composing and performing paranda music. The album consists of the songs from his extensive catalog that have proven to be his biggest hits, the songs he plays most frequently while touring throughout the world.

"I feel like the main cultural representative now of the Garifuna community of Central America" says Aurelio "and I think I can do more with my music that I ever could as a lawmaker."

Joseph Arthur Free Download

The Campaign Song sees Joseph Arthur give voice to his frustration with the current state of affairs around this year's Republican Presidential candidate, Donald Trump. A frustration expressed in the best way he can: a protest song.

"Woody Guthrie wrote a protest song about Donald Trump's grandfather. So this is like carrying the torch for Woody," says Joseph. "I used the lingo of a by gone era to accentuate that aspect, like 'America really should boot bums like this out' and 'Old scratch'. I wanted to use the lingo of Trump's elders as a subtle form of linguistic manipulation designed to send him under his bed shivering like the whimpering maggot that he is."

The video, created by Ehud Lazin, features footage from artist Spencer Tunick's large-scale anti-Trump installation Everything She Says Means Everything.

Society of Sound: September

This September Bowers & Wilkins is celebrating the 100th Society of Sound release with a special record to mark the occasion - Passion, by Peter Gabriel.

Passion, an extension of the score that Peter had created for Martin Scorsese's film The Last Temptation Of Christ, was also the very first release for the newly formed Real World Records in June 1989.

Passion is a quietly persuasive record, with music that unpeels itself slowly, of unquantifiable depth and spirituality, music that matches the tension and power of the film itself.

Nearly 30 years after its release, Passion is now being made available to subscribers of Bower & Wilkins' Society of Sound as a high-resolution download, the first time it has been available in such sparkling definition.
