Liner notes
This new track from The Breath, ‘Chilli Salt’, is a powerfully raw and raucously punchy song that has become a cornerstone of the band’s live set. The song shows a more muscular, riff-driven side to the band with Ríoghnach Connolly’s glorious voice soaring over the fabric of Stuart McCallum’s distinctive, layered soundworld. The song was recorded during the sessions for the band’s debut album, Carry Your Kin.
Connolly’s songs pour forth from her own life in a torrent of meaning, excavating raw feeling with little in the way of defence. ‘Chilli Salt’ is about sexual politics, delivered with compelling emotional honesty and a powerful urgency.
Reviews
'Chilli Salt' hits hard, with McCallum’s guitar in classic rock mode and Connolly’s voice full of heat – as the title might suggest. WNYC (USA)
