Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is a household name in India. He is one of those few classical musicians whose name and influence has transcended the classical audience and has contributed to the greater popularisation of classical music in the country at large.
He has single-handedly lifted his folk instrument, the Santoor, to full acceptance within the classical solo field.
Recorded at Real World Studios during the 1998 Real World Recording Week and produced by John Leckie, this is a newly composed piece from Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, the virtuoso of the hammered dulcimer - an instrument rare in the Indian tradition.
The cermony takes place on 18 September at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
