Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is a household name in India. He is one of those few classical musicians whose name and influence has transcended the classical audience and has contributed to the greater popularisation of classical music in the country at large.

He has single-handedly lifted his folk instrument, the Santoor, to full acceptance within the classical solo field.
