NTS Work in Progress 2021: artist development opportunity

Continuing from the success of the previous two years, NTS Radio is opening applications for the third iteration of its artist development opportunity NTS Work In Progress, which takes a selection of talented artists and groups to the next stage of the musical career over the course of 2021. Once again, Real World is offering studio time as part of the package for the chosen artists.

Applications are open from Monday 12th April, 2pm (UK), and close on 2nd May. The project aims to support musicians from all backgrounds and across all genres – whether you’re a rapper or an opera singer; experimental club producer or traditional folk musician; NTS welcomes applications from all. The artists selected for 2021 will join the ranks of many well-established Work In Progress alumni: Aya, Azadi.mp3, Babeheaven, Contour, Crystalmess, Jaxxon D Silva, LA Timpa, Lecx Stacy, Lucinda Chua, Luka Productions, Nala Sinephro, Paris Aden, re:ni, Slauson Malone, VIOLENCE, and Yeara.  You can read more about the previous selections on the NTS website.

In 2017, NTS joined the Arts Council England’s national portfolio of funded organisations (NPO), and with this funding, alongside support from Carhartt WIP and other cultural and audio partners, aims to give back to the underground musical community that has always supported the diversity of its programming. NTS encourages applicants of all ages, ethnicities, nationalities, socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities and physical and neurological abilities. Applications are open to performing individuals and ensembles of every persuasion: singers, bands, duos, trained or self-taught musicians, producers and the as-yet undefined…

One of last year's successful applicants Babeheaven perform their single 'In My Arms' at Real World Studios.

Each NTS WIP artist or band will receive a bespoke package of support based on their individual needs. This ranges from paid live performances across the globe to professional press photos, an NTS produced music video, mentoring sessions from industry experts, and free audio equipment and software provided by our partners: Audio Technica, Native Instruments, Pioneer DJ and Spitfire Audio. NTS WIP is a global programme, offering remote support. NTS will work with their global network to realise each artist’s creative ambitions in a safe and restriction compliant manner. Where possible, WIP applicants will receive access to professional recording studios, including in-house NTS studios, Real World Studios and Baltic Studios, alongside live broadcasting opportunities on NTS Radio.
