Rokia Koné shares new remix of ‘Shezita’ and announces UK tour

A brand-new remix of Rokia Koné & Jacknife Lee’s ‘Shezita’ is out today on all digital platforms via Real World X, an imprint of Real World Records. The ‘Louie Lion [Don’t] Take a Seat’ remix arrives in the heat of summer 2024’s dance club fever, and was created by Ibiza producers Pere Navarro and Antonio Blakstad a.k.a. Louie Lion.

This Afro-electro track fuses the classic 90s house sound with more contemporary influences inspired by Disclosure and Black Coffee, with an additional organ line by Spanish musician Llorenç Barceló, who has previously toured and recorded with Rokia as well as Rosalía and Les Amazones d’Afrique. Piercing through the infectious club groove is Rokia’s unmistakable voice with the tongue-in-cheek lyric ‘Let’s take a seat, sit back… haters will always have a reason to hate’.

Following the release of her widely-lauded debut album BAMANAN in collaboration with rock producer Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M., Taylor Swift) which brought her two All Africa Music Award nominations and The New York Times Critic’s Pick, Rokia Koné now presents her music in an intimate new setting for the very first time for a series of shows in Autumn 2024. Accompanied by maestro Malian guitarist Salif Koné and Mandé percussionist Yahael Camara Onono (of Balimaya Project), audiences will have a special opportunity to witness a once-in-a-generation vocalist up close, in an atmospheric setting left wide open for improvisation and epic musical storytelling.

    Rokia Koné & Jacknife Lee

    Released 18 February 2022

It’s a voice that soars — pure, clear and true — above bass and synths, traditional percussion and infectious Mande guitar grooves. A stop-you-in-your-tracks voice instantly familiar to anyone in Mali, West Africa: Rokia Koné, a.k.a the Rose of Bamako. On her debut album, she teams up with California-based rock producer Jacknife Lee to reimagine the Malian sound in ways both leftfield and beautiful.
