The Breath announce new music and share ‘Only Stories’

Following the success of their album Let The Cards Fall, The Breath have announced a new digital release featuring acoustic performances of tracks from their second album. Recorded at Real World Studios in December 2018, the release will also feature two brand new songs and a new version of 'Boat Song' from 2016's Carry Your Kin.

Only Stories (Let The Cards Fall Revisited) will be available digitally on 5 April. The title track, ‘Only Stories’ is one of two new songs, and can be downloaded and streamed online now. Imbued with a serene fragility, the instrumentation is sparse and songwriting is intimate, with Ríoghnach’s flute bringing an emotive quality to this beautiful song. She is accompanied by bandmate and producer Stuart McCallum on acoustic guitar.

'Only Stories' was recorded and filmed live in the Wood Room at Real World Studios in December 2018.

“ ‘Only Stories’ is about oral history,” Ríoghnach says, “that which can’t be written down— and memories of childhood summers in Glandore, West Cork, with my grandparents. Proper Irish summers, that seem to go on forever and where time goes by the wayside.

The Breath will tour as a duo in Germany and the Netherlands next month, and are booked for a run of summer festivals, including Beautiful Days and Boomtown Fair. Only Stories (Let The Cards Fall Revisited) will be released digitally on 5 April.

Only Stories (Let the Cards Fall Revisited) is a duo recording that captures the very essence of The Breath with a selection of skilfully crafted songs —mostly from their recent album Let the Cards Fall.
