Liner notes

‘Asian Vibes’ is the lead single from Joi’s debut album One and One is One. Released in 1999, it includes guest vocals by Shusheela Raman and was remixed by electronic producers Way Out West and Skeewiff. The track epitomises the sound of the late 90s Asian Underground movement of which Joi were key players. The video, directed by Michael Coulson, features band members Farook and Haroon Shamsher in New York’s Time Square.

Reviews

  • Rocky guitar meets Asian vocals on this anthemic single from the Bengali duo's album One And One Is One Music Week
  • A fabulous swirling piece of British Asian pop which puts the pretensions of Kula Shaker to shame The Times (UK)
  • Way Out West and Skeewif rightly re-interpret for Peter Gabriel's most excellent label— very catchy DJ Magazine
