Lamisi is one of Ghana’s most distinctive contemporary voices, an artist whose music bridges northern Ghanaian traditions and Accra’s vibrant urban soundscape. Born into the Kusasi community of the Upper East Region and now based in Accra, Lamisi’s work draws deeply on the rhythms, languages and lived experiences of northern Ghana, while embracing forward-looking production and global influences.
Singing primarily in Kusaal, her mother tongue, as well as English and other Ghanaian languages, Lamisi has built a reputation for music that is both rooted and innovative. Influenced by artists such as Miriam Makeba and Chaka Khan, her powerful, expressive voice first turned heads in church, before leading her to collaborations with major Ghanaian artists including Sarkodie, Samini, Stonebwoy and Rocky Dawuni. She fronted Accra’s Patchbay Band for eight years before launching her solo career with her debut album Brighter Side in 2019.
Her collaboration with Wanlov the Kubolor on Let Us Clap marked a bold new chapter, weaving ancestral handclapping traditions from northern Ghana with electronic processing and contemporary production. The project reflects Lamisi’s wider artistic mission: to honour heritage while imagining new futures for African music.
Beyond the stage, Lamisi is a committed advocate for women and girls. Through her Lamisi Fata Foundation, she works to empower young women in northern Ghana, challenging entrenched inequalities and amplifying unheard voices.
Dynamic, socially conscious and deeply connected to her roots, Lamisi creates music that invites audiences to think, move and come together — a sound shaped by community, tradition and change.

Born from the clapping rhythms of the women of northern Ghana, Let Us Clap unites two Accra-based sensations — singer Lamisi and sonic adventurer Wanlov the Kubolor — in a vibrant clash of traditions. Ancient hand-patterns and traditional acoustic instrumentation meld with hypnotic, digitally treated vocals, creating a sound rooted in community and celebrating female strength. African futurism with a beating heart.
