Real World Records is sad to say goodbye to Ray Cooper. We will remember Ray (and his partner Ashley Newton) for their unerring support for the label during it’s early days. As they took Virgin Records to greater and greater levels of success with the signing of artists such as the Spice Girls and Daft Punk, Ray and Ashley also continued to champion alternative music.
In the days that Real World Records was distributed and promoted by Virgin, they followed their enthusiasm for the label with real active encouragement and funding for artists such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Afro Celt Sound System. They were fantastic days— enormous fun! We will always be thankful for Ray’s energy and commitment and belief in what we were doing.
